It is important to know and continue to read scripture so that it is always fresh in your mind. That way you can automatically integrate his word into your lessons.

We should lead by example! In my class, we memorize Psalms 23. I realized that I had not fully memorized it since it had been so long since I had read it. As I started teaching that lesson, it was very difficult because I forgot some of the lines. I realized that I needed to take time to commit verses to memory if I want to show the students it is important and valuable. If I do not even memorize the verses, why should they? I try to make the time to commit the verses to heart. It is good for me and is good to show the students.

The very essence of being a Christian educator assumes that we are committed to studying the word and applying it to our lives. You can’t use what you don’t put in, so the more scripture we have in our hearts and minds, the more God can use us to be effective for the kingdom.

Christian educators need to be rooted in scripture and it’s important to be able to pull it up in your mind quickly when you need it. This could be the opportunity to help a student that needs the comfort or perspective of the Bible.
