We need to be continually growing in our knowledge of who God is and how His Word applies to our lives both now and in the future.

As an educator, James tells us point blank in 3:1 why it is of upmost importance for us to know and continue to study the Scriptures. “Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.” We have to know that what we teach is in alignment with Scripture or we will suffer greater penalty than those who do not hold that position of authority over others. What we teach will greatly impact the worldviews of those we teach. If we teach askew, we will be held accountable for that. We just have to remember that even though we teach Truth, each individual will do with it what they choose. It is only our responsibility to impart Truth to them.

The Word is the foundation for our Christian belief. We need to constantly study the Word so that we can grow in Christ. We need to also apply the Word to our daily lives and our lessons. Finally, we need to follow Christ’s example in studying the Word and referring to the Word at all times.
