It is important for our students to learn discernment so they do not fall prey to the world we live in. Students are bombarded and overwhelmed with the information of the world and they will need to learn to discern in order to best follow Christ and not fall into the ways of the world.

We live in a culture that constantly bombards us with information, most of which is completely biased and subjective but presented as truth. It is important for students to learn how to be discerning when it comes to such a wealth of information so that they can recognize what lines up with Scripture (absolute truth) and what does not. Discernment keeps students from being gullible and led astray.

It is important that our students have a biblical foundation by which they can discern the ungodly suggestions, perspectives, and societal norms of the world. Students must understand that Bible is the Truth, and there is no situation or circumstance to which it can be applied to.

It’s important to teach students not to take everything at face value, but to think critically about issues. Teaching them discernment goes beyond teaching them right from wrong and includes going back into God’s Word for the answers to life’s big questions.

Students need to know that discernment comes from Scripture. When confronted with an issue, we should look to Scripture for solutions or ask how our solution lines up with Scripture. Students need to know this so they can also test their own views and solutions to questions.
