It is important because this is the goal. That they be able to discern for themselves.

It is important that we teach our students strategies for discernment because it equips them to engage individuals who may have opposing worldviews. It also helps deepen their faith as they seek answers to the difficult questions about their faith. Lastly, it develops a biblical foundation that allows them to discern what is truthful and good.

They need to be equipped to deal with the reality of an unbelieving world. We can’t be afraid to discuss what the world will tell them is true. We need to trust the Holy Spirit to work in their lives as we present those ideas and tell them what the Bible says is true. They will get the answers to their questions in life one way or another. It would be wise of us to share and discuss these things with students while we still have them in a rather protected environment and have their attention to listen to biblical truth.

It is important to give them strategies because they will be going out in the world and will face many things that are contrary to the Biblical Worldview. We want them to know how to identify the lies and know the truth.

We cannot assume that students will be able to just know how to discern. We must give them tools and then practice within an environment that is safe.
