Why is it important that we teach our students strategies for discernment?

So that they are able to become rooted in the Word and in their relationship to the Lord. When He deems it a season of testing for maturation, they will have been prepared. Learning to seek Him with all of their heart and not leaning to their own understanding. Learning to love their neighbor as themselves. Learning to love the LORD with all of their heart, mind, soul and strength and being able to fight the good fight of the faith.

It is Important to teach our students strategies for discernment so that they can use discernment in real world situations. When our students come across media and difficult situations that are of this world rather than a Biblical worldview, we want them to have the tools to analyze and make decisions based on God’s word.

So they may develop critical thinking and be able to face college with a sharp, thoughtful biblical world view.

So when they are on their own they will know where to turn for truth – God’s word.

One of the most important things to teach high school students is that everything they come in contact with is from a person’s perspective, all of which needs to be compared to God’s perspective. This is important so that they will be aware of their surroundings and can make good judgments as they get older and more pressured to believe others’ realities.
