There are Christians being slaughtered in other countries and so we should be ready to defend our faith when there is a little opposition. It is important to teach our students to not be afraid of speaking up for what they believe. We are lucky to be in a country where we are not killed for our beliefs. We need to utilize those rights to defend others.

When I signed my teaching contract, I also signed a lifestyle agreement. The lifestyle agreement was not a big deal, but now certain behaviors were prohibited and I felt that temptation even though I fought off those temptations years ago. Media (tv, radio, internet) constantly tries to normalize non-Christian behaviors and my non-Christian friends often use value-laden language intended to criticize or upset certain people. The attacks are already there and if you don’t recognize them, you may be susceptible to their methods.

For me, I need to think things out and study the Scripture to be ready with an answer. I think this is so important to be able to have a loving response instead of lashing out in anger.

The scriptures tell us that we will have troubles, face opposition, and have those who turn away from Christ. So we need to be prepared that troubles and opposition will come so that our faith is not shaken when they do. We also need to be in God’s Word so that we can loving respond to those who attack. And even if they do not change, we do not know what the Lord is doing in their hearts and lives or where they will be in the future.

First, as an educator knowing what attacks are coming can help prepare you for difficult conversations with students in the classroom and integrate ways to graciously talk about our faith in context of what we are teaching. Secondly, it makes us aware of how the school may need to respond legislatively to new laws that are being put in place. Lastly, it gives us to opportunity to make sure that our biblical values are still being taught and valued in our education setting and not being twisted with current philosophical thought.
