It’s important to be prepared because attacks on our Christian faith will inevitably happen. I like how 1 Peter 3:15 states: “always [be] prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” We should be “rooted and built up in Him”, as Colossians states, and this will allow us to stay strong when we are being persecuted and to recognize deception when it creeps up around us and/or our students.

We see the day approaching so clearly when our beliefs as Christians will no longer be tolerated. We do face persecution. Although it is not to the extent some of our brothers and sisters face it in other countries, little by little our Christian beliefs are being labeled as hateful. It is important to be prepared to stand up for what is right and our freedom to worship in this country or the day may arrive when we are no longer free to do so. It will not be easy. As scripture tells us, however, we should be ready to give a reason for the hope that we have. We want to honor the Lord by obeying him rather than man. It shouldn’t surprise us. The Lord warned us that in this world we would have trouble, but to take heart because he has overcome the world. We can march on in bold faith because Jesus goes before us!

Christianity has been under attack for some time now and we need to stand up for our rights as Christians to have our beliefs. There are Christians being slaughtered in other countries and so we should be ready to defend our faith when there is a little opposition. It is important to teach our students to not be afraid of speaking up for what they believe. We are lucky to be in a country where we are not killed for our beliefs. We need to utilize those rights to defend others.

I suspect that Spiritual Warfare is real and ongoing. Attacks may come internally or externally. When I signed my teaching contract, I also signed a lifestyle agreement. The lifestyle agreement was not a big deal, but now certain behaviors were prohibited and I felt that temptation even though I fought off those temptations years ago. Media (tv, radio, internet) constantly tries to normalize non-Christian behaviors and my non-Christian friends often use value-laden language intended to criticize or upset certain people. The attacks are already there and if you don’t recognize them, you may be susceptible to their methods.

I believe we need to be prepared for attacks on our Christian faith because we know it is coming. The Word tells us so. For me, I need to think things out and study the Scripture to be ready with an answer. I think this is so important to be able to have a loving response instead of lashing out in anger.
