A local church serves many important functions in the life of a Christian. It gives the believer a place to assemble together for corporate praise and worship as well as hear the word of God preached and expounded upon to expand their knowledge base. They serve as prayer and accountability partners (that hold us to the standards of the faith) and as a place to fellowship with like-minded followers of Christ. It is within the local church that we grow spiritually (with their encouragement) and have an important outlet from which to share our gifts and talents as well. They serve as a sounding board for tough questions too.

I do believe that it is important to share your new life with followers of Christ for moral and spiritual support. But also, church helps bring that Christian personality out of me. When I am in church, I feel like the person God says that I am. I feel more given and happier to be alive, but I feel anger when I see members buying and selling in the church and people smoking cigarettes on the inside.

The local church edifies each member, provides encouragement to continue in the faith, provides examples through elders, provides opportunities for discipling, and helps to hold each other accountable. It also gives us a way to live out the love of the body of Christ, overcoming differences, working together for the good of the whole, and providing a refuge for those who seek to know Jesus more. When we foresake the assembly, we are depriving ourselves and our brothers and sisters opportunities to grow, and depriving the local community the opportunity to see examples of the body of Christ.

It is very important to be a part of the local church because of the local community.

First of all, the church is not a human institution. It is the establishment of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth by way of the Holy Spirit that indwells in believers in Jesus Christ. And the church should be as important to us as it is to Christ, for the church is to reveal God to the world, both individually and collectively.
