Macro observation focuses the study on one whole book so the student has the entire context of what the book is about before they do a deep dive into a passage , verse or chapter with micro observation.

One gets a better understanding of where the author is coming from

You need to understand the context of the book before you can interpret specific passages within. Understanding the author and reader, time period, genre, big picture will shape you understand a single text.

I believe macro observation is the foundation of deciphering and understanding scripture.
