To understand the culture and time and language of the people Jesus was ministering to.

It gives us a visual picture of His ministry, and also shows how He came for ALL people.

This summer I read the Old Testament from start to finish and spent quite a bit of time looking at maps and familiarizing myself with the geography… where his feet touched is incredibly important to people because his steps and his ministry have a path that is then real to the people of today.

Such information creates a stronger case for Jesus being a real human being in real identifiable places. Instead of seeing Him as a character in a movie (fictional), for example, He emerges as a real person (non-fictional).
