Parents are the “main” trainers in the household! We need to be a team.

We as Christians need to be sensitive to the needs of each family while at the same time giving God’s truth to all of our parents. Many who come through our doors have needs, some are believers but are unsure how best to give their children a Christ centered foundation. Christian Educators have been given a ministry to provide this foundation, to minister not only to the child but to parents as well.

It is important to support parents so that the educator is working as a partner to “train up” their children. Developing positive relationships with a parents can help the educator to better understand the family dynamics, the needs or character of the child, and make it easier to address difficult issues that may arise during the year.

Our society is so diverse when it comes to family structure. Many parents who are saved may have been saved after a family tragedy that caused issues in the home, whether that be deaths, divorce, domestic violence, etc. We need to be sensitive and supportive of their current status and be the hands and feet of Christ to them. Our first job is to minister to others, it doesn’t matter what their background, who they are, where they come from, what they choose. We must support and encourage our parents in a godly manner. When I was a single parent, I had great support from the schools my children were at. They offered to send some extra food home, or to add us to the school Angel Tree project. Even with my university time, the veterans office has reached out to me and my family every holiday season to offer gift cards to help with providing gifts for our children. When we an support families, no matter their structure, we share a Christ with them. If parental figures are saved, they will appreciate the support. If parental figures are not save, we may be the only Jesus they see. Everyone deserves the opportunity to meet Jesus, be Him for them.

It is important to support parents because it helps when they know we as teachers care, and in addition we can accomplish more when we know we are working together as a team for the benefit of the children. Some parents are going through a difficult time and they need all the help they can get.
