Let’s face it…parenting is tough. It takes a village to raise kids these days. As teachers we should be offering to come along side parents and help them in any way we can. It’s also important for parents to know that as teachers we don’t have all the answers either. If we work together, we have a better chance at helping their children reach their highest God given potential.

It is important to support parents because we are part of a team helping their child succeed. They are raising their children in a Christian home and choosing to pay private school tuition for a Christian education outside the home, even when a free public education is at their disposal. We need to be intentional to do our best to work with them just as much as we expect them to work with us. We are all on the same page so we should behave accordingly.

It is important to always support the parents of children in your course, because God has commanded these parents to raise up their children. As educators we need to come alongside those parents and help them, guide them so that their child is successful in school and in the relationship with the Lord.

Sometimes we give greater honor or look more favorably on those parents who give a lot of their time to the school. They volunteer, drop things off for teachers, and are heavily involved and invested in their children’s academic success. Then we have those parents who don’t seem to be as involved. We may hear from them or reach out to them only when there is a problem.
The fact is that most of those kids whose parents are heavily involved would probably excel in any school environment because of their parents. The kids who do not have that level of engagement are the ones who need what we have to offer at Christian schools the most. If we treated those parents with the same level of kindness and respect the impact we can have on those families would be truly transformative.
These parents may not be able to be overly involved due to their specific circumstances but treating them as if they were could lead them to make necessary adjustments that will help their children and the schools.

Since God has given parents the primary responsibility for training their children, it is our job to support parents, rather than to usurp their authority.
