Because the parents are the main care givers, and we are here to fill in the gaps in the process.

It’s parents job to be the primary teachers and caregivers at home. We are here to fill in the needed gaps, like learning school work. We need to remember if it wasn’t for the parents, we wouldn’t have the opportunity to teach their children.

Parents were given the mandate to train up a child. Our goal is to support parents by being their armor bearer. Remembering the goal is to bring the next generation to salvation, so they can proclaim the gospel to the generation that follows.

Parents are the ones who are given the primary responsibility to lead and disciple their children, according to Deuteronomy 6. Our role is not to usurp their authority, but to encourage/support/assist them as they lead their children. This is a very interesting balance, because we as teachers sometimes have more time with the student than even the parents do. The more we support the parents and encourage them to fulfill God’s commands, the better it will be for the students.
