Why is it important to support parents?

It makes the parent feel excepted and needed in their Childs educational field of life. It also gives the child a comfort of belonging. Growing up I had a longing for my parents to be apart of my education. Didn’t happen. I got to see other parents being a part of their students life. It left a emptiness.

Parents are the primary relationship to our students. Parents are in charge of raising these children, so as we support them and partner with them, the more overall success each child will have!

Supporting parents, being part of their team makes both of our jobs easier and supports our young people in training. When I was young, it seemed like it was parents versus the education system and it enabled kids to go astray because no one was paying attention; I was in public school at that time. I did not ever want to be one of those teachers that looked down their nose at parents or treat parents badly. Parents and teachers should both be in the corner of the ring for the student-together. That works better for the success of the student and the student also has collaboration modelled by their parents and their teacher.

So that they can do their best in raising their children. We want to be an encouragement to them!

Parents are the primary educators. More than this, parents are the primary influencers. I have a roll to play in the life of my students, but it is very small compared to the roll that parents play. Supporting them — especially given that our goals are almost always aligned — is one of the best ways for me to have an impact on my students.
Additionally, my students are not my children. Parents have the right and responsibility to teach their children as they see fit (within certain parameters). It is not my job to undermine parents, but to partner with parents in supporting their goals for their children.
