Teaching children scripture is more powerful than many will ever know. I know, for me, what saved me from myself (in my backslidden days), was recalling scripture that I memorized in my youth. The Holy Spirit kept certain verses at the forefront of my mind no matter how much I tried to suppress it. BUT, I believe that even more important than having students memorize the verses, discuss what they mean, how they apply. If they can see what that verse is intended for, they will recall it more readily when they need it.
