The Word of God is our foundation of our faith and understanding God’s word is important for a child’s salvation. Teaching scripture doesn’t just mean having students memorize verses, I feel the importance is in understanding the meaning of each verse and being able to practice it in our daily lives by showing others God’s love through caring and serving. I try to teach my students from scripture what God is saying through his word. I try to show them in the scripture that they can learn truth and how to have a personal relationship with Jesus by meditating on the word and through prayer. Teaching scripture to children gives them a foundation of knowledge and wisdom from God’s word that can be found no where else. They can become followers of Christ and learn the importance of knowing Jesus through God’s word.

It’s important for all believers to “hide God’s Word in our hearts, so we might not sin against” Him. Bottom line- if we know the way in which we should walk according to the Word of God, do just that, we can be spared many life choices that result in regret and sin.

I truly appreciate the lecturer’s encouragement to teach children ALL Scripture and do not skip any book in the Bible because as 2 Timothy 3:16 says “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” Teaching Scripture is important to train a child in righteousness. As educators we must have a firm commitment to teach all the books of the Bible.

I think it is important to teach scripture to children so that they have a foundation for their beliefs. When teaching scripture children are able to remember the biblical truths that God has promised and when there is trouble they are able to lean on those truths. Scripture is our road map on how to live a Christ centered life.
