It is important to teach Scripture to children so that they may begin having that foundation of truth. While we understand they will not grasp all of the details of that truth in the younger years, they will be able to build on those foundational truths in Scripture so that their worldview will be based on God’s Word and what He has done and continues to do instead of the latest philosophical whim. God’s Word never changes.

We are told in Scripture to “hid His word in our heart.” I go back to Corrie Ten Boom… how would we make it through a time like that when we would so need God’s word yet our only access would be what we have learned through teaching and application and through memorization.
Also, when storms and trials come our way we don’t need to wait until then to wonder what scripture can help me or help a friend/family member through this. We need a solid foundation in scripture before that happens. We don’t wait to start securing our house while the hurricane happens… we secure it long before the storm arrives.
The same reason it is important for us… it is that much more important for our students with what they are being bombarded with from their peers, society, and social media. .

As Proverbs 22:6 instructs us: Point your kids in the right direction— when they’re old they won’t be lost (The Message translation). The Bible is God’s Word – a love letter; intimate instruction on how to live according to His will and ways so that we may draw close and experience His presence; a signpost to find Him; a living document that instructs, guides, and speaks to us individually and collectively.

Just like reading an instruction manual when assembling a complicated machine, so we must carefully follow the “Creator’s manual”, God’s Holy Word in order to build our lives correctly. Christian educators and parents are mandated to use Scripture to pass on true doctrine, correcting error, teaching the right ways of thinking and behaving to the next generation. This learning process does not come naturally. We must take an active role to equip children to become mature believers, who also will train their children the same.

In Deuteronomy 6: 6 – 7, God commands parents to teach Scripture to their children. As Christian educators, we are partnering with parents in educating their children. Proverbs 22:6 says “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” We have examples in Scripture of Moses, Samuel, Daniel, Timothy, and others who were taught the Scripture at a young age.
