    Teaching scripture forces me to:
    (1) revisit and develop a deeper understanding of scripture that I previously studied,
    (2) re-imagine that scripture through the eyes of someone seeing or hearing it the first time, and
    (3) introduce (or re-introduce) a young person to ideas that could have a lasting impact on their soul

Scripture is foundational as a Christian educator, and it is foundational and central to life in general. As Dr. Black states, “The Bible is God’s inerrant Word” and answers life’s big questions. To be effective in the classroom, we can’t neglect to refer to the scriptures, where all truth is found. It is the inspired Word of God where we can refer in order to plant and germinate the seeds for a child’s salvation. When we use Scripture to lay the groundwork, they will get to know their Savior and surely grow from it. By Scripture, they will learn what is “profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness.”

When we teach children the Scriptures, we are helping them to learn eternal truths about God, themselves and the world. Children often have a strong faith. God makes sense to them. It is so important to teach God’s Word to them so that their life is set on a path toward faith in God. I love the principal in Proverbs, “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” God’s Word tells us the way we should go, it answers the big questions, it is a light to our path. We should teach the Bible to children because they are the next generation and we want to wailfully declare God and ensure that they know Him.

Children need to know scripture because it sets them on a path of guidance and instruction deeply embedded in God’s word.

It is important to teach Scripture to children because as Romans 12:2 teaches us, we will either conform to this world or we will be transformed by the renewing of our mind, which allows us to discern what the will of God is. Too often I run into parents that believe that their children will just figure our their faith on their own. While this is a possibility, in my experience many eventually conform to the world instead of being transformed by the word of God. I believe it is very important that we as educators widen the circle of influence in students lives and in that process expose them to scripture.
