If we do not believe in the notion of sin, we will not believe that we need to be saved. We will think that we need, at most, re-education, healing or some sort of reformation.

Understanding the concept of foolishness Which shows us that we are born moving away from God, and no amount of education, discipline, lecture etc. will move us to understand the necessity of relationship with God. Only the Spirit of God can move us toward God.

If we don’t understand that we are foolish and that our foolishness stems from our sin nature, then we would never see our need for a Savior to forgive us and restore our relationship to Himself, let alone be thankful for the gift of salvation.

If we come into the world as innocent beings and life messes us up, we can attribute all our sin to something outside ourselves. We aren’t guilty of sin and there is no need for Jesus to die for our sins as they did not originate in us. But if we enter the world as selfish willful beings, as the Bible says, we understand our sinful nature and are grateful for the work of Christ on the cross providing a way for us to have a relationship with God.

Foolishness is bound up in all of us. To release this, we must grasp the reality of it, and expose our weaknesses to the strength of the gospel’s ability to renew our minds and replace our wrong conclusions with the Truth
