God created each of us in His image. In the heart of every human is a desire for God. There is a passion that was there from birth. This passion causes us to be convicted about certain issues. When we strive for our own satisfaction rather than focusing on God, that is foolishness. James 4:8 says, “draw near to Him and He will draw near to you.” James goes on to share that we are sinners and we need to work on a pure heart. A heart that accepts His love and is in the process of moving towards that every day. This is only possible by understanding God’s love letter written for us. That is the written word, the Bible. It’s a story about God drawing His creation, His people to live in His love.

We need to understand foolishness so we see that our task as soul carers is not to restore innocence but to invite people to see how they’ve been walking away from God. We need to see our ugliness, to appreciate God’s holiness and how He makes it possible for us through Jesus to experience relationship with Him!

Because it is really depressing and hopeless when you understand the root of our foolishness. And only when you get how horrible you are will you recognize your need for the Gospel, God’s grace and mercy.

Acknowledging and understanding the concept of our own foolishness let appreciate so much more the love of God, His plan since the beginning to allow us to restore our relationship with Him. So that we can claim to be “righteous through Christ our Lord and that is something we can never rely on our own will or wisdom to achieve.
