We are selfish from birth and have this conviction within us that God is not adequate to satisfy the deepest longings of our soul. Until we understand that, we are not going to appreciate the good news that Christ’s death and blood shed for our sins to redeem us from our selfish foolish ways. Only as we come to see how ugly the human condition is without Christ can we more fully appreciate His redeeming us from it. We wont see a need for Him if we think we are fine on our own and we can satisfy our deepest longings somewhere else.

It is vital to understand the concept of foolishness so that we become aware of the profound need for God’s grace/gospel. The more we are aware of our foolishness (sinfulness), the greater our need for the gospel. When we first understand that we are not born innocent and then form our naive foolishness, we begin to learn how to maneuver this world in our own power. Furthermore, our well-formed patterns of “practiced foolishness” or unhealthy syles of relating become reinforced if we are not aware of how they damage our relationships with God and others. The Hope, though, that comes from an awareness of our foolishness and our profound conviction of it leads us straight to the gospel!

If we do not know our sin we will never know our Savior. If sin is missing the mark, of not loving God and loving your neighbor as ourselves, that is foolishness. We need to accept his love and his sacrifice for us, Repentance is changing your mind to agree with God. Wisdom is knowing and loving his precepts. Or natural inclination is Make life work and to find satisfaction by satisfying our needs and desires that we can , often iwithout him.We will never do this without him and his gospel.
