Why is prayer about more than simply requests or answers?

Because prayer is a privilege from God to commune with Him.

Prayer is about spending time with God and allowing His influence on our thoughts and prayers. Sometimes we would do well to listen, rather than worry so much about what to say.

sometimes I wish that there was not the word “prayer”, because it sounds so serious and as if a formula must be applied. But true prayer is simply communicating with our Creator, and as I am growing in understanding Him, I am finding that my prayers are growing in understanding as well.

Prayer is a meaningful conversation between creator and creation. It should be two-way communication. Each listening and speaking in turn. God wants to mature us as believers via prayer. To make us more like his son, Jesus. Prayer is to be more about giving than receiving. Helping fellow sojourners down the straight and narrow path towards heaven. God is not a wish-granting genie but rather a gracious loving Father who wants to be involved in our lives, actively walking and talking (fellowshipping) with his beloved children. While we can make our requests know to God of course, there is far more involved in prayer than that. Praise, worship, thanksgiving, needs, wants, and desires are all to be expressed honestly and openly in prayer. Prayer is a chance to bear our soul to our heavenly Daddy (and best friend). It is a special time where we have his undivided attention and are able to sit at his feet or on his lap and just unburden ourselves to Him. He wants us to share our joys, fears, everything about our live with Him! Prayer is truly amazing! Therefore, “Pray without ceasing” (I Thessalonians 5:17)”.

God isn’t a magic Genie, rub Him just right, get your desires, and then He goes back into His lamp and leaves you alone. God is all about the relationship, spending time together, doing life together.
