Why is what you believe about creation important to your role as a Christian educator?

It is important because it is one of life’s “big questions”. What we believe about the world and our place in the world will affect how we teach and deliver lessons to our students. As a Christian it’s important, because it reveals Who/what I put my trust in…. As a Christian, it is (and should be) God. As a Christian educator, I can’t just refer to the bible in SOME matters as I see fit; I should refer to it in all matters. If I take my walk seriously as a Christian, but hold secular worldviews, how am I any different than the world? I can’t be a Christian educator without trusting Christian doctrine, and this includes creation.

What I believe about creation is important because it reveals my beliefs about who created me and my purpose. This directly influences how I teach in my course and what I teach in my course.

Creation answers the questions of being. Who am I? What is my purpose? Why do I exist? Students, especially high school students, really have an identity issue. Knowing who they are and who they were created to be is an essential piece as they grow and mature.

Creation is at the beginning of all human history. How you approach man is determined by your view of creation.

What you believe is always influencing how you portray or interpret life around you. So it is important to be able to discuss these questions with your students and to help them to reach their own conclusions.
