Lament means to grieve a loss. This book was about the destruction of Jerusalem. It represents a realistic view of life because when we don’t obey God, things do not go the way we would like them to go.

I think of the way we as parents attempt to guide and sometimes warn our children for their betterment and safety, and yet are broken-hearted when they ignore or forget to follow along. Not much new under the sun.

The prophet Jeremiah lamented when the Israelites turned from God and were taken into captivity, causing the destruction of Jerusalem.
In life today, God laments when we disobey and cause destruction in our own lives. Yet He is faithful and calls us to return to Him as He is willing to forgive and restore us back to Himself.

Because Jeremiah lamented the continuous rebellion of Israel, which led God to punish them and ended on the full destruction of Jerusalem. He was heartbroken about the results of their stubbornnes and perseverance on error. It’s a realistic view because sin and life without God has the same consequences on our life and our eternal destination. Because those are the same consequences that sin and rebellion can bring on our life nowadays.

It’s Jeremiah laments over the destruction of Jerusalem stemming from the disobedience of the Israel’s people. Jeremiah pour out his pain and sorrow to God for his people. It also gives us hope to see that even after this kind of destruction and heartbreak, God’s people still can count on Him to redeem their lives only if they submit to God’s authority.
