After Jerusalem is destroyed, Jeremiah laments over Israel’s disobedience and its consequences. The book is a lament of a broken hearted prophet. Lamentations shows what us what God wants us to know about how to deal with our experiences of pain, loss, and sorrow. As the material pointed out, the promise of Lamentations is that, even in our worst experiences, we can rely on the great faithfulness of God.

Jerusalem has been destroyed and Jeremiah is a brokenhearted prophet. The people’s continued disobedience has Jeremiah pleading with them to return to their God. Disobedience has consequences and sometimes those consequences are painful. Thankfully, we have a gracious God ready to forgive.

It was a time of mourning and sadness for the people of Israel (specifically Jeremiah) because they were taken over and exiled. Our disobedience leads to disaster and pain.

It means to lament. They are lamenting over the state of Israel. It shows the consequences of disobedience.

Lamentations is Jeremiah lamenting the destruction of Jerusalem. We often lament or mourn when something bad happens. Sometimes (not always) it is because we have moved away from God.
