Lamentations is about Jeremiah grieving because of the destruction of Jerusalem. This expresses the same emotions and reponses to heartbreak, disappointment and hopelessness that we all go through for such times.

Lamentations was given this title because it is a book lamenting about what is going on in the lives of the Israelites at the time. It is expressing sorrow and regret for the choices and consequences that the people of day are facing. This is very similar to how we express realistic view of life when we are talking with mentor’s, or close friends about what is happening in our day to day lives as a result of the choices that we have personally made.

In this book of the Bible is recorded the heartbroken lament of Jeremiah over the destruction of Jerusalem and the Jew’s disobedience to God. Jeremiah is sorrowful and grieving the tragedy that has befallen the children of God. Jeremiah’s lamentation is the sort of regret we should have when we do not obey the Lord. It also shows the concern we should have for our fellow man, especially the lost. Sin, lament, and repent…this is the cycle of humanity. Afterwards comes restoration and restored fellowship in right standing with God. So, Lamentations is a realistic view of life, even today.

The book of Lamentations was given that title because it consists of Jeremiah’s laments or his sorrow for the disobedience of his people at that time. He was discouraged and displeased with their sins. Much like life in today’s world, there are people chosen by God to warn us of our disobedience and our sins against God and the consequences, but some do not take heed. It is realistic to understand that there are consequences for our sins, just as it was for the people in Jeremiah’s day.

The book Lamentations reflects the emotional state of the prophet seeing the destruction of Jerusalem, and not seeing the end of it as God’s people are waiting. This is a realistic view of life as we will also face many challenges we know our hope and deliverance are from God and yet do not know when His help will come. We will also feel sad for others not being able to endure and give in to temptations.
