In life we see many times when people and nations have turned their back on God and often there are consequences that affect the people of a nation.

Jerusalem had been destroyed and Jeremiah’s “lament” over his people’s disobedience and its consequences are recorded in this book. Maybe Jeremiah was living in hope that his people would be saved but he had to witness the destruction of his people and it broke his heart.

We see this a lot today. People make a mistake, deal with the consequences of that mistake, then turn around and do the exact same thing again expecting a different outcome. God wants us to stop that cycle and instead of trying to do everything on our own, give it to Him to help guide and shape our decisions to line up with His will.
