Jerusalem had been destroyed and it was Jeremiah’s lament over his people’s disobedience and its tragic consequences. It expresses a realistic view of life because GOD’s people do fall into sin today and have a face the consequences of those sins.

The book of lamentations is given that title because it is the lamenting or mourning of Israel because of the fall and destruction of her kingdom and her people’s carrying away into Babylon. This expresses a realistic view of life in that grief is such real thing and painful thing and when great tragedy happens we all find ways to express our grief in some attempt to ease the pain and to get sympathy and compassion from those that care about us, also to help ease our pain. The fact that God made room for the book of lamentations shows how much He sympathizes with our pain, even if it’s a result of our own actions. God allows us to grief and cares about our sorrow. I thank God for His mericful compassion.

The title was given due to the weeping or “lament” of the destruction of Jerusalem. Because of Israel’s disobedience over a long period of time God allowed His people to be captured and displaced by a foreign power.

Because it was a book recording the lament of a broken-hearted prophet (Jeremiah), as Jerusalem had been destroyed. Jeremiah was lamenting over the rebellion of Judah and their consequences were recorded in this book.
