Jeremiah was lamenting over the disobedience of his people. We will always have disobedience and there will be consequences for our actions.

Jeremiah was grieving deeply over his people’s disobedience which led to the distraction pf Jerusalem. In reality, consequences do follow follow-disobedience.

It was given that title b/c of the deep rebellion against God that Israel had come to, and the weeping Prophet Jeremiah was sent to them, to give the warnings of destruction but to also tell Israel of the blessings of repentance and follow back after God.

Jeremiah was lamenting the failure of the Jewish people to listen to God’s prophets and follow his law. And he was lamenting the captivity of the Jewish people and the destruction of Jerusalem. What was true then is true now. If we don’t listen to God’s Word and obey, we too will experience consequences that will bring about lamentation in those who love us, primarily the Lord.

The book of Lamentations is the prophet’s Jeremiah’s lament over his people’s disobedience to God. It is expressed a realistic view of life because sin, rebellion, and disobedience still characterize the human experience. We should be heartbroken over our sinful condition and desire reconciliation to God.
