When you learn a new subject, you have to slowly build a strong foundation and add new knowledge to that base. To understand the importance of the New Testament, you must understand the Old Testament.

Lacking a knowledge of the OT would weaken our understanding of the NT because it would make it harder to understanding the coming and need of a savior. The people written in the OT tried to make the perfect sacrifice in order to be made right with God, while also professing to the coming Messiah that was to come. We misunderstand that if we don’t understand the OT.

There would not be the foundation to understand the plans and purpose of God. We would not know what occurred and how through time He has worked to bring us back to Himself.

Without foundations your faith is shallow. Not only that, you miss the whole context and fabric of who you are in Jesus.

It answers the big questions the New Testament does not. It gives us fuel for the ministry as well as an understanding for who the God head of the Trinity really is. Without the understanding of the historical and prophetical side of the Old Testament then its going to be hard to see the plan for the bible and ultimately your life.
