We would not understand why Jesus was sent for our salvation. We would not understand how bad we were and still are for the need of a Savior.

The Old Testament shows our need for Savior. It shows a picture of the standard of justice God requires and my inability to meet it. It sets the stage for me to see how Jesus meets this requirement of perfection perfectly. And He paid the price so this perfection covers me. The stories in the New Testament are stories of fulfillment of prophecy. This shows God’s faithfulness to His promises.

It is the foundation that God laid, identifying His promises and the One who would come to fulfill all He promised. It reveals the character and attributes of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. It is God’s story and the lays out the God’s purpose and plan of redemption through the Christ, His only Son. Without studying the OT, we cannot fully understand the purpose and
love of God displyed through the Cross and sacrifice of His Only son, Jesus Christ. It is a timeless gift from the Father. -
The Old Testament lays the foundation (the history, culture, etc.) for the New Testament.
