The Old Testament lays the foundation of our understanding of GOD and His character, and it prophesies the coming of the Messiah.

The Old Testament is the foundation of our faith in Christ.

Because without the Old Testament, we lost contact and context of the prophesies that were fulfilled in the New Testament. As Jesus stated, He came to fulfill what was spoken in the Old Testament, not to do away with it.
-
Because the knowledge in the Old Testament is necessary to explain the redemptive plan that God brought to fruition through the work of Jesus. It’s hard to tell people about a savior if you can’t explain what we need saving from.

A lack knowledge of the Old Testaments will weaken our understanding of the New Testament because they are connected. The writings and events of the Old correlate and help explain and expound on the New.
