The New Testament is the fulfillment of the Old Testament. Understanding the Old Testament gives us a better appreciation and love for the events of the New Testament.

Because the OT is the foundation of the beginning and progression of the story of God’s creations, prophesies, teachings, it gives a transition into the “second part of the story”

Not understanding the Old Testament is like putting a building without a strong foundation, it will not be sturdy or lost very long. In other words, we start reading a book at the beginning to get the full understanding; conversely, a lack of knowledge of the Old Testament doesn’t give us the full story of God and why Jesus came.

It would be like Cliff Notes of God's promises to us. Jesus tells us the what but the Old Testament tells us the why and how and where.
