Why would a lack of knowledge of the Old Testament weaken our understanding of the New Testament?

The Old Testament provides a complete picture of who God is, and his plan to rescue humanity. Without it we can never fully grasp the weight of what Jesus did for us on the cross.

The Old Testament is a bridge from the dispensation of the law that links us to the New Testament which introduces us to the dispensation of grace.
Lack of knowledge of the Old Testament would weaken our understanding of the historical perspective of the biblical truths. The relationships the struggles the covenants established by God with his people. The Bible from cover to cover is testament of who God is to the believer.

Simple rule of History, how can we truly understand anything even in current events if we don’t know the history behind it?

The Old Testament is the foundation in which you can build everything else on. If you don’t have a strong foundation, how can the rest of your knowledge also be strong.
