The Old Testament and the New Testament must be both understood. They are one story. In order to understand the New Testament, one must understand the Old Testament. It’s full of prophecy which makes the New Testament much more powerful.

Without knowing how it all begin, we would not be able to understand why Jesus was crucified. we also would not be able to understand things that Jesus or others say in the NT that refer to the OT

We won’t understand the references to the Old Testament that are made in the New testament and we won’t understand the lineage of Jesus’ family descendants.

The Old Testament is the concealed version of the New Testament promise that Christ would come and die for the sins of mankind.

A lack of knowledge of the Old Testament would weaken our understanding of the New Testament because the Old Testament is the foundation or the beginning of the God’s story of redemption. We can’t understand or clearly see how something makes sense if we only know half of the story.
