Old Testament reveals why we needed Jesus and the New Testament.

Without knowledge of the Old Testament we wouldn’t have the understanding of why God gave us Jesus.

The writers of the New Testament refer to scripture, and the Old Testament was the only scripture they had. If we don’t have knowledge and understanding of the Old Testament then we don’t have the full picture of the message the New Testament conveys. The Old Testament is the ‘foundation of truth’, the New Testament ‘builds the super-structure’.

A lack of knowledge of the OT would weaken our understanding of the NT because the OT foretells what the OT. Without understanding the OT laws, customs, and the lives of God’s chosen people; one would not understand why we needed Jesus to be the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of the world. The NT story talks about the life of Jesus who was the fulfillment of the law; He was the perfect sacrifice needed for us to be able to have the gift of salvation.
