We need to understand the laws, where things began, the prophecies to understand the resl meaning behind what Christ did for us.

The Old Testament describes how we are unable to redeem ourselves, and how we are in need of a blameless Saviour. By seeing how the Old Testament people fail over and over again, we get to appreciate the arrival of Jesus and the work He would do on the cross for us.

One reason is the understanding of Jesus. Without reading the repeated foreshadowing and prophesies about the coming Messiah, you can’t fully grasp the concept of how long the Israelites waited for a savior. I helps you understand the Pharisees, the response many people had to Jesus, and the full gospel when you understand the history of God’s people and how much they had prepared for their Messiah.

A lack of knowledge of the Old Testament would be like building a house upside down. The Old Testament is the foundational record of everything the Lord God does from creation and its fall to the redemptive work of Christ. Through the Old Testament, we repeatedly see how as humans we fall short of God’s greatness and goodness, how apart from him we are nothing and can truly do nothing. We see David, a man described as after God’s heart even falling short repeatedly winding all the way up to murder his friend and get his wife pregnant. The Old Testament shows us how much of a need for God we truly have, with the Old we cannot fully appreciate and understand the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross in the New. Without the Old we may be fooled into thinking that we can do things on our own.

Christ came to fulfill what was started in the Old Testament. If you do not know the beginning,, how can you truly under the ending?
