The New Testament refers to the Old Testament all the time. I would argue it is impossible to understand the New without the Old.

If we do not understand the old testament then we will not know what they are referring to in the new testament, and get very lost .

We wouldn’t have a full picture of how the events of the Bible come together, so then we would not learn all that God has for us.
-
If we do not have an understanding if God, His word or the prophecy of Jesus Christ, we cannot fully understand or know God.

Different characters and events in the Old Testament are mentioned in the New Testament. So without sufficient knowledge of the Old Testament, it could pose some challenges in understanding the New Testament.
