The Old Testament is part of God’s Word so there is information in it to help us understand a more complete picture of the story God is writing. It gives an account of creation, which tells us so much about who God is, how we came to be, and the relationship he desires to have with us. It paves the way for the New Testament.

The Old Testament is the foundation that lays out the New. Meaning that without the Old the New would not mean anything because for their to be redemption and forgiveness there must before have been error and mistakes.

Because the OT is the foundation of the whole Bible. It establishes the foundation of Truth.

The OT is the foundation and is needed to fully understand and appreciate the NT, without the NT the OT is incomplete.

Much of the scripture quoted in the new Testament is referenced in the Old Testament. It is vital to read the Whole Book.

The Old Testament has information that leads up to events in New Testament. It provides the history and customs of the teachings of the early church and the early preditions of the world.
Many prophecies about the Messiah are found in the Old Testament. Recognizing these prophecies and seeing how Jesus fulfills them enhances our understanding of His identity and mission.

Back to the above question, the Old Testament set starts the Story. Without know the beginning, then end might make no sense. The Old Testament set the foundation by giving you the view knowledge need to understand his word.
