One should study the Old Testament simply because it’s the beginning of all things, ALL THINGS! The Old Testament is the only way to come to know God, Yahweh. The Old Testament begins with God and then everything else after that. It’s so important to know our beginning and foundation.

Because the OT is the foundation and where all began. Understanding the OT will ease the comprehension of the NT

Like the video said the old testament is a core foundation of understanding God and people. Without this understanding the magnificent truths brought forth in the new testament wouldn’t carry the weight they do without this understanding.
-
The Old Testament teaches us about God and his nature, and about people and their nature and their need for a Savior. Without understanding of the fundamental problem, knowledge of Jesus would not be needed.
-
Without understanding the Old Testament we lack full context of the whole bible story. So much of why God does what he does is explained in the lives of Old Testament characters and people. We see the value of trusting God and his plan for man.

You build knowledge on a foundation. The OT is our foundation. You must know the history, the story, to understand the NT. The OT gives us the truth and facts about Jesus so we can apply it to our lives as we read the NT. Without an understanding of the OT you have nothing to build on when reading the NT.
