What are some reasons one should study the Old Testament?

Knowing God as best as we can will help us to become closer to Him.

To learn who God is and to learn how the Old Testament sets the stage for Jesus’ arrival.

1. God’s character is revealed clearly
2. We are very much like the Israel. Understanding them, their struggles and God’s work will help us live our lives better.
3. The Gospel is not good news without the old testament. -
To KNOW God, build foundation from creation to the coming of Christ.

Some reasons to study the Old Testament is so we can start at the beginning and build upon the knowledge of who God is as well as who we are. It’s the foundation of where everything begins and we simply continue to build upon.

Because Old Testament is intro to New Testament and without knowing what happened in old days, we would have hard time to understand New Testament

The OT is foundational to our understanding of the NT. It provides the prophecy that the NT answers.

The New Testament cannot be interpreted correctly apart from the Old Testament. When the New Testament authors wrote about Jesus teaching and explaining the Scriptures, and as they wrote about sharing “the Word” with others, it was the Old Testament Scriptures that were being taught, explained, and shared.

We would not understand our need for Jesus. We would not see how great Jesus was / is because He fulfilled the law and prophecies of the Old Testament.

The Old Testament shows us why we need Jesus and without that knowledge we might not appreciate what Jesus has done for us as much as we do with that understanding.
