To gain a solid foundation and understanding of God and his word.

To better understand the character of God. Specifically his holiness. You also get an understanding of the history of people. We have consistently fallen short for thousands of years. The Old Testament helps us see how much we need Him. The old testament also speaks of the coming Christ who would save his people from their sin. There is something powerful about something so profound coming true years later.

One should study the Old Testament, because that way you can learn the history and the law of God. And you will know what is going on in the New testament when they refer to the Old Testament.
-
To have a full understanding of God, the history of all who came before us, and How God’s word still applies to our lives today.
-
One should study the Old Testament because it lays out the foundation of our understanding of God, and much of the New Testament references the Old Testament text.

The Old Testament is a foundation for knowing God in historical facts and through the personal encounters experienced by its characters. Without knowing the history of God and His interactions with humans, our own history and ability to “fill in the blanks” our way leaves us with a skewed view that holds God at bay and limits our own story from being established.

The Old Testament is the foundation for the New Testament and if we don’t understand the Old Testament I think there will be a lot of misunderstanding and wonder about why things happened or what is going on in the New Testament.

it tells us about God.
it answers questions about how life began.
it tells how evil came into our world.
it prophesies of the Messiah-Redeemer.
it inspires us to holy living.
it fills our hearts with gratitude and praise. The O;d Testament has a lot of key people, places, and events that are important to know.
Some of the books in the old testament have been hard for me to understand. I’m learning now
to ask questions, and do research for things I don’t understand. The old testament leads us to the greatest thing.

Hi Porsha
I agree with you, the Old Testament explains why Jesus came to Earth as our saviour.

The Bible is like a book series; there are two parts. If one doesn’t know what happed before Jesus came, the importance and signifiance of the resurrection, will not make sense.
