This is a stormy north-east wind that is mostly found active in Arabia. This type of wind can violently take hold of boats and ships tossing them around. In this story this wind was a part of the storm that caused a shipwreck.

I am inclined to say that the winds were Frontal winds because of the struggle the sailors w.ere having iaintaining the boat secured and the risk of becoming shipwrecked. The deciding factor for me was the potential losses and the storms. However, it is reasonable to assume they were Khamsin winds

This passage about the Storm shows us that the wind blows against the ships in the harbor at Crete. A very strong Hurricane force wind came on the Island. Luke tells the reader that the sailors had no choice but to let go and allow it to be driven away, vs 14.

This type of wind is a frontal wind such as a Medicane, or typhoon-strength wind. It is significant because it drove the Paul’s ship off course causing him to shipwreck.

The wind is described similar to a typhoon or huricane in force, which opposed the direction in which they were traveling, thus blowing them off course.

Christian Learning Center Forums How are the summer and winter seasons most like and unlike the weather where you live?

There are four seasons where I live and there is not always enough rain to keep our green grass and Oak trees healthy, especially during the hot summer months. Where I live, we do not need rain for our drinking, cooking, or bath water. Our water supply is always the same and we almost never worry about it. Winter is great up until Christmas the cold is mild but after the New Year’s it gets really cold mostly below zero temperatures. Knowing how to dress for the cold is important.

I live near wetlands and beaches, in the southeastern United States. Winters tend to be breezy and cold in the mornings and nights. Generally, winter afternoons are pleasant, between the high 40s and low 60s Fahrenheit. Summers are humid ], although temperatires can reach almost 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Therefore, some areas may feel dry, dusty and very uncomfortable.

We get a large amount of rainfall, and have distinct seasons. We can grow crops in the spring, summer and fall. The winds can be very strong here as well.

I live in Ohio and we have a wide variety of weather. Just today, it rained and went from 68 to 30^F just within 5 to 6 hours. We usually have a good winter with 3 to 6 inches of snow. This is important for the water table under the ground where we live. In the summer, we usually have high temperatures in the 80’s and 90’s. But lately, there have been many changes.

I live in a monsoon climate, so we also go months with no rainfall, however, our rainy season is opposite to Israel’s in that all of our rain comes in the months between June through October.

The Hot East wind is also known as a Khamsin wind. People did not like the wind because in brought hot temperatures and filled the air with fine dust and sand. T

Job refers to a hot east wind which would evaporate ground water sources quickly. East winds in the Bible are often connected with scorching heat, dry temperatures, famine, withering and dry land.

“Should his vain and useless knowledge puff him up with pride and self-conceit?” (Benson Commentary) In Acts 27: 14, the wind reference is a literal wind that could be felt and was damaging. The wind referred to in Job 15:2 is a figurative way of referring to the self-indulgence of Job talking uselessly to justify himself.

Job is referring to the Khansin winds which are very dangerous. This type of wind produces both a dust and haze which it makes it difficult for trading goods and travel.

He is referring to the east wind, a very dry scorching wind that cooked the crops. He is saying that just blowing is pointless and can be damaging

Christian Learning Center Forums What is the relationship of the rainfall cycle to the cycle of grain agriculture in ancient Israel?

Grain was planted during the rainy season so that there was moisture to germinate. Several types of grains were harvested during the dry season.

Typically, April through mid-September would be a good growing season for grain with warmer temperatures rather than during the winter. However, during these five months of the year, the rain essentially ceases. So, to grow grain in Israel water must be stored during the rainy season to be used during the growing season. Unfortunately, these two seasons are opposite one another.

The rainfall cycle is very important to to grain agriculture in order to feed the people in the Promised Land. The rainfall cycle is important because the rain can to stored through the water systems for future usage.

The beginning of the rainfall cycle is also the beginning of the cycle of grain agriculture in ancient Israel. When water is being collected and stored, fields and being plowed and planted.

With the rain comes the grain-growing cycle. The land is plowed, planted, and grain harvested at the end of the winter, when it starts drying.
