    A medicane or Mediterranean hurricane. It caused the ship to wreck and everyone landed on the island called Melita.

    Acts 27:14 But before very long there rushed down from the land a violent wind, called Euraquilo;

    I think Luke is referring to the frontal winds that develop during the winter season. These winds are violent and intense, and are known to close down shipping on the Mediterranean Sea and cause property damage. Occasionally a low pressure storm intensifies to become a medicane (Mediterranean hurricane) and it’s likely that this is the type of storm that Luke is referencing in this passage.

    Luke refers to it as a hurricane. Since this was a hurricane in the Mediterranean, it is considered to be a Medicane. This type of storm is a frontal wind.
