Christian Learning Center Forums Mart De Haan stated that The Da Vinci Code casts doubt on the reliability of the Bible: “When I first read The Da Vinci Code, I could see immediately why it had been on the New York Times’ bestselling fiction list for some time. It’s a gripping suspense-filled murder mystery, and it’s controversial: it claims a basis in fact that, if believed as presented, would contradict the story line of the Bible and give us a radically different Jesus. One of the main characters, a fictional Harvard professor, lends an upscale air of credibility to [Dan Brown’s] claims that the real truth about the Bible’s origin has been a carefully guarded secret of the church.” Why would those who have not looked into its historical development readily accept allegations against the Bible? What would be a more truthful and appropriate response to these anti-Bible claims?

First and foremost, the DaVinci Code is a work of fiction. It is only loosely based on actual historical fact and has very little basis on real events. Unfortunately, people are quick to believe anything sensational and particularly anything that puts the Bible in a poor light. Unbelievers in particular do not want to believe that Bible is actually true because then they would be obligated to live by its statutes or be judged accordingly. Many do not want to believe in a single benevolent loving higher power such as God and therefore choose to readily accept any allegations against the Bible as well. The Bible can be substantiated via historical documentation from many sources both within and outside of Christianity. The history of the formation of the early church (after Jesus’ ascension) is also well documented by many reliable sources. How the Bible came to be is credible as well as the truths contained therein. Even though the Bible spans a significant period of time and has many authors, all of them were inspired via the Holy Spirit to write their portion of the grand narrative we know today as the Bible. Each part or book is intricately interwoven into a single meta-narrative that can clearly be corroborated by irrefutable historical documentation. This great feat could only have been orchestrated and accomplished by an infallible God though he chose to use mortal men to pen it, because the Bible is in fact so perfect. It truly is God’s love story in written form, a living document, that was graciously given to mankind as a roadmap for navigating this life. Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth.

First off, we must learn to take fiction for what it is. Anyone can write it, it does not have to be justified, and no one is really checking for the truth because there is no truth. I have my own suspicion about the Catholic Church and why it is not called the Universal Christian Church of God. Christianity has always been under the umbrella of the Catholic Church along with Christendom, a knock off version of Christianity. Maybe a business investment was the fact behind the fiction, but nevertheless the Bible is from the true God in Heaven, He alone inspired every word for me and you, so that we could be saved through the one He sent that died on the cross.

The Bible is God breathed not just some history book. It is a booked with many authors pointing to one savior. Each individual author points to one truth one savior one God. This faith, truth, and story has continues for centuries.

The Bible is more than a history book. The Word is God and God is the Word. If one truly spend time reading and meditating upon God’s Word, the Bible comes alive and brings us into the presence of our Lord. No doubt there are still many questions one might have on certain aspects of the Bible, but in the main, it is like having a close relationship with someone. it is a journey of discovery based on proven truths and trusts.

Mr. Dan Brown made it fit historic names with a prefabricated conception of Jesus to trap the reader in a confusion of events and dates with real names, to give the secrecy he needed to support his work. He manipulated the facts in order to fit “perfectly”, unless the reader knows the truth of each one of them. Becoming only a fiction novel! If we are believers, and you find out yourself in a moment of confusion, we have in the Bible ways to test, what others say against it. We can research, not only accept what a book says because is well written or sounds good!

It’s primarily for entertainment. ‘It’s a ripping good story’ as one reviewer said, and so people are primarily being entertained by good characters, fast action. But what makes it historical fiction is the story, which is supposedly set against the backdrop of real history, true things that happened. And this is partly why I think it has become so popular. People believe that what the book is talking about actually took place in space and time.” Why is it difficult to separate fact from fiction in a novel that claims to be based on history? What would someone need to do to test the truth claims of a historical novel?

Historical fiction novels are written in such a way as to convey a fictional story interspersed amongst real life events, setting, and even characters. None of this “embellishment” can be substantiated because it is fiction. However, it bears enough resemblance to actual proven history that it is often mistaken for the truth. There is just enough truth in the story to make it believable and propel the story forward and make it captivating and engaging for the reader. In order for a reader to test the accuracy of this type of historical fiction novel, a person must go back and ferret out the actual documented history using credible sources, documents, and personal accounts. Then the factual history that was discovered has to be meticulously compared to the piece of fiction. Any differences must be noted and taken into consideration when reading the work in question to be able to decipher the absolute truth. As with most things, things are not always as they initially appear. One must look below the surface to determine what is real and what is not in a piece of historical fiction.

The book has categorized itself as fiction. There is no truth to it. The author wanted people to buy his product. He wanted to make lots of money, so he included fact (Bible) with fiction.

A person would actually have to be familiar with the Bible and the history I’m order to evaluate what claims are true and which ones are fiction. It seems that Brown had to modify some historical events along with the rest of his fiction writing in order to entertain his audience.

I think that people find it so easy to believe fiction as fact if the story has other elements that may be true. I also think that people have a natural tendency to doubt things and anything that could sound logical, is plausible. In order to test the truth claims of a historical novel, one would need to do more research, to either back up the claims or refute the claims.

Fiction is not truth even if based on historical facts. It is easier to accept truth without doing the work to discern.
