I’m really thankful for this succinct summary which pulls together the convoluted discussions of the 10 lessons of the first course. I’m a believer of “less is more”, and I can now see the full picture of where the model of SoulCare is going.

My feeling now is thinking how important reframing often is. The person comes to you with a problem, maybe hoping for a magic solution. But you need to reframe his focus to be the underlying condition of the heart and his relationship with God – the part of the iceberg “below the waterline”.

I feel that I have, without understanding why, followed ‘some’ of these concepts, but now that I understand how they all are necessary and how they all work together, I.can be more effective in SoukCare. I feel even a greater sense of inadequacy than I did before learning about these concepts, but understanding that ‘inadequacy’ and ‘brokenness’ are a pre-requisite, I can now lean into those feelings and lean on the One who is working in and through me. I don’t think I will ever have another conversation with another person, whether famiky, friend, stranger, person looking for SoulCare (and not even knowing what they are looking for), without feeling the pull of SoulCare. I think I will never look the same at someone trying to encourage me, without thinking of SoukCare. I think that is a good thing. I think the is the beginning of the next ‘reformation’.

This review is very encouraging, as we emphasize that the agent of change is God, through the spirit. We do not need to solve the friend’s problem, but to see the situation more accurately. This will enable the friend to respond to God’s call to cooperate with Him, and allow Him to change them in the process. I have experienced the sence that, “Lord, I do not know what to expect, but I know you know, and have this time under control: Please guid our time, and accomplish your purposes!”

I am excited about a current friendship in which these ideas, concepts and questions are being explored – I am more excited about reengaging with my friend – and grateful that God has gifted me with a passion and curiosity to dig deeper – and just today I was pondering the ways that as much as I love people and people complement my caring heart – I am aware that just as LC has explained here – my heart must go beyond my desire to protect me from getting to close to others and they to me.
