Wisdom begins with the fear of God, as it says in Proverbs 1. If we start on another foundation rather than God, we are bound to have at least some serious misunderstandings about reality.

I agree because I think an unbeliever has a drastically different view of what wisdom is.

I agree. God created us in his image and we must firmly maintain that as believers we must pass the wisdom of love to everyone around us.

Wisdom is the discovery of truths in God’s kingdom, so yes. However, I would argue that too many believers stop short of exploring their faith with abandon. They are risk adverse and want to stick with what they know/can predict. Ultimately, God’s truth is greater than all, and so there’s nothing to be afraid of … but I would say that many Christians I know aren’t courageous enough to ask hard questions, they play it safe.

I agree with the lecturer. When you use a concordance to search up wisdom, true wisdom only comes from the Lord, so to pursue that wisdom as James recommends is to go after the ‘pearl’ that is worth everything. Godly wisdom is only available to the believer because only the believer understands that it exists. This would be foundational to a Christian theory of knowledge.

I agree with what she is saying. How can a non-believer love wisdom when they haven’t even begun the journey of finding truth? I think that non-believers can love learning and obtaining knowledge, but that is different than seeking wisdom. You cannot judge and decide with soundness if you’re basing your judgement on feelings or circumstances. One can only become wise when they recognize the authority of God’s word, and then apply that to life.
