I would have described a good leader as someone who leads by example. I would now describe a good leader as someone who is a better leader after leading another person and the person being led is also a better person.
-
Before I would of said “good leaders take someone to a better place they could not have gotten to on their own.” I still prefer this definition over what was discussed.
-
Before this lesson, I would have described a good leader as someone who has an understanding of the ones they are over/leading, listens, strives to problem solve, communicate clearly, and set the mentee up for success to go on without them.
Now, I would day that a good leader asks or anticipates a need, assesses levels, and meets the current need. In order for the trainee to gain understanding, apply the skills/lesson, and continue to grow with the leader.
-
I would have said leaders are those who have been tried and tested and found true in their area of leadership. Now I would say leaders lead. Leaders are those on the front lines being ever present And ready to lead others.
-
I would say that leaders lead in an effective manner, although I experienced a rude awaking in college when I had to listen to class presentations, focus on very evil individuals, being acknowledged as effective leaders. Today I am wiser than before but still interested in this course on effective leadership.

What is the difference between leadership and management?

Leadership takes people to where they are better and finds ways to get the best of them in the process.
Management does not always take into account people skills, nor does it focus on getting people to be the best person or a team that they can be.

Leading people to somewhere new
Managing people to perform tasks
-
Managers oversee to make sure everything is running smoothly and can be a short-term perspective. Leaders prioritize development over functionality and think longer path.
-
Managers are overseers, whereas leaders are getting people to somewhere they haven’t been.
