A good leader teaches others how to lead well and step out because of what they learned.

I’ve always felt that the most important part of being a leader is being a servant. I would now add that a leader is someone who takes their people from where they are to where they are going while making them better people.

During the video, when the lecturer was talking about definitions of leadership, I kept thinking of the definition of a coach that is presented by the 3Dimensional Coaching organization: “To take someone of importance from where they are to where they want or need to go.” This is very similar to the lecturer’s definition of leading someone to a better place.

Great leaders are great servants; I would now add that they take people from where they are to a better place and help make those following them better people.

Leadership takes people somewhere new and makes them better in the process.
Management just manages the things of where we are.

Leadership leads others
Management keeps people in their zone

Leadership helps us get where we need to go while management just tell us what to do. Leaders go with us on the journey while managers sit back and watch the show.

Leadership gets people moving forward and leads to new ideas and an improved place/position while management is making sure that people are effectively doing what they are currently doing.

- Leadership is the ability of an individual to get an organization to move in a positive direction that will benefit that group.
- Management is the ability to get a group of people to complete work or a task.
