Historical background stands out most to me. I want to understand the scriptures in a deeper way. I believe we can find application to our modern lives, but I’m so intrigued by the historical aspect of the writers lives at the time. History repeat itself, after all!

Historical questions are interesting to me. Because of their different culture, language, and experiences, people in the first century would have a different way of understanding certain parts of the New Testament than we do in our modern times. Although the Bible is written for all of us, the New Testament writers were writing *to* their contemporaries. It opens up a new dimension of understanding when I think of how they would have received the message.

I think a combination of theology and contemporary application will be of the most help to me. To understand the major doctrines of Christianity and then apply them to life now.

Theology stands out the most for me, but I like to apply interpretation and context in tandem to try and get a better grip on the text I am studying. Once the interpretation and context are established theology of the text will help keep my thoughts on track – given that I am always dealing with the Word of God, and keeping in mind that I must see what He wants me to take away.

I think the Historic background will help me the most. If you have the facts, it is easier to help those who are fact-based people come to look at the faith better.
