By understanding the historical background mixed with an understanding of the cultural norms of the day, we can then understand the exegetical breakdown of the book. This then makes it possible to be able to apply the biblical principle into our own daily lives. And isn’t that what it is all about.

The historical background is important. When reading scripture it is important to understand the culture that the books are written too. The eastern cultures are vary different than the western culture we live in today. It is important to look through scripture with the lens of the eastern cultures.

For me it is the Historical Background. Time, date, and audience help to authenticate the time period, and provide a foundation that sets the stage for the other 3 questions.

The historical background stood out to me the most because I love the history of God’s word! I think that understanding the historical background can help me (and others) to keep things in context as we study God’s word.

I belive by understanding the historical background, you are able to better understand the context of the time, and see that even though 2,000 years ago, political and economic situations may have been different man still struggles with temptations and faith
